Detailed functions and roles of co-facilitators and co-convenors

Functions and roles of the two Organizing Partners of the IPMG through their designated Facilitators/Convenors

  1. Maintain communication and coordination with the UNDESA for the IPMG engagements with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and related processes and mechanisms as the duly designated representatives of the IPMG.
  2. Represent the IPMG in the mechanisms relating to all the Major Groups engaging in the 2030 Agenda, as well as other related bodies and mechanisms.
  3. Share information and updates to the members of the IPMG and the regional focal organizations.
  4. Coordinate with RFOs on matters relating to the engagement of the IPMG in relevant events, etc. on the 2030 Agenda and related processes, bodies and mechanisms.
  5. Coordinate and facilitate technical and other support for the effective participation of IP representatives in the HLPF, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Forum, Inter-Agency Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDG) coordinated by the UN Statistics Division, the UNEP as implementing agency of environmental dimension of the SDGs, and other relevant events at the global level.
  6. Engage and collaborate with other Major Groups to gain support for recommendations of the IP Major Group; participation; in developing common position papers; co-organizing events, etc. as appropriate, and build solidarity and cooperation on common agenda.
  7. Prepare thematic reports, statements and position papers of the IPMG in consultation with the regional focal organizations and members as appropriate.
  8. Explore and establish partnerships with other stakeholders and development actors (including UN agencies) in support of the IP agenda on the 2030 Agenda and related concerns.
  9. Conduct global networking to generate all forms of support for the sustained engagement of indigenous peoples to the 2030 Agenda and for the related needs and priorities of indigenous peoples in relation to sustainable development
  10. Prepare and circulate regular update reports for the Global Coordinating Committee and members of the IPMG.
  11. Convene the annual meetings of the GCC of the IPMG during the sessions of the UNPFII for planning, coordination, assessment, among others (though there is no financial support for the travel and related expenses for the RFO and technical secretariat).
