FILAC and United Nations sign memorandum of cooperation to advance the implementation of the rights of indigenous peoples

Technical Secretary of the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC), Alvaro Pop, and the Resident Coordinator of UN System in Bolivia, Mauricio Ramirez, signed a memorandum of understanding that will strengthen today and allow progress in implementing the Plan of Action of Latin America for the implementation of the rights of Indigenous peoples, implementation and monitoring of the Agenda 2030 and the Millennium Sustainable Development and the promotion, protection and full realization of the rights of peoples Indians in Bolivia. It heading held at United Nations offices, city La Paz, Bolivia. 

Specifically, the agreement establishes cooperation between the two institutions to advance the implementation of the Action Plan, which aims to contribute to the realization of the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and include mechanisms for participation of indigenous peoples in national plans for implementation and monitoring of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), within the framework of the Bolivian plurinationality.

He also will develop joint initiatives to advance the promotion, protection and full realization of the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Bolivia, promoting coherent and coordinated actions between national authorities actions, indigenous autonomies, indigenous peoples and organizations of regional cooperation and global.

Also, it allows you to work together in promoting Horizontal Cooperation South - South and triangular cooperation to include the approach and development visions of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean; Similarly coordinated actions with the participation of agencies of the United Nations and members of the group responsible for multiculturalism results in the "Framework of Complementarity United Nations in Bolivia Vivir Bien" UNDAF will be developed.

Following the signing of this agreement, both authorities held a meeting in which they exchanged information and issues of common interest that could facilitate mutual cooperation; among some of them: the Sustainable Development Goals, clean energy, education, productive development, rural native indigenous justice, indigenous autonomy, global pact, corporate social responsibility. They also raised some activities to operationalize this agreement and work on a common agenda with the group of multiculturalism results.
